Enter my new roommate, Mole!

Rik's girlfriend decided to buy him a cat this christmas and it arrived today. He's a cute little fella, all into sinking his claws into living flesh and meowing all over the place.
Not so good news include my workplace crashing todeath a blue screen and destroying about twelve screenshots for an article i just wrote. And me being somewhat still yet again a bit sick and growing a beard.

Machinimag is in the making, but now for some nonsense cinema with Paul, Peter and some more, maybe...

a quick trip to Dumbo, Brooklyn, a part of town where a lot of new upstart companies share their offices and ideas.

I was invited by Chalu and a friend of his, called Masanori, both into performance and installation art and also the guys behind nppod.org.
I had a fun time hanging out and discussing machinima's social impact and, well, the future.
Plus, a gorgeous view over the "other" part of New York...

i kind of fucked up my sleepcycle over the weekend. Ach...

There's so much to do and i still feel a bit burned out. Though i'm making progress. For those of you who are interested in what the Filmfestival awards were like, you can go check out a movie ofit, featuring yours truly over at machinimag.com.
Live over here is strange. But i'm starting to get more comfortable with it.

sorry for the dead link on that previous post. I was a bit in a hurry.
Should work now.
One of the good things about living in this area is that it's pretty close to the water. Peter and i had a nice trip the other day and were thinking about helicopter rides before w saw the price tag...
The weather is still astonishing. Although it started raining, it's actually pretty warm outside i wonder how long this will last...

Going outside is SO necessary. You stay in too long you get depressive. Seriously. Going for a snack is a good way to force you to do something. With only little natural light in the appartement, the walls seem to come closing in on you pretty soon. 1000 Cable TV channels, internet, terrible tasting water, dripping faucets and strange, loud music sometimes make things worse.
I don't wanna complain though. This is still a great appartement and the music somehow stopped yesterday.
Also, we went to that all famous Wai-Cafe to get some carrot-ginger dressed salad and steak.
I hear you there Klaus...
Afterwards for some chocolate cake, coffee and wandering along broadway to get one of those WoW games they sell for 29.99$ at Gamestop. Apparently the european version (which i already have) doesn't work 'round here.
You know, to see your buddies online and stuff... All research and for the sake of the medium machinima!

One of the discussions i had at the festival was whether or not machinima was a medium. Well, i would say no, but Hugh would say yes. And he had that "Well, i'm talking McLuhan here..." sentence ready that kinda silenced me. I guess i got to read that book eventually...
Also, how'd you like comments turned on?

There is a HUGE party going on like right next to my appartement. I have no idea where that sound is coming from, but they just switched from Mash-up style dance music to rather blunt rock music.
Which makes this a good time to rework the site for the person2184 movie series. There might be some traffic coming tomorrow and the downloads better work...
Here's two impression of what the "Let's have a drink after all this" get-together was like...

from left to right:
Frank Dellario and Tom Palmer discussing stuff that is definetly not worksafe - and half of the "not ready for realtime" guys, Jon Lippincott and Jon Meyer take a well deserved meal...
Peter was just telling me that police in NY is on "high alert" and Central Station is supposedly closed till tuesday. Though it seems that this happens quite regularly here...

ok, so i won. Two awards. One for best visual design and one for best technical achievement.
Both for person2184.
It was lotsa fun, but i'm too tired to write more.
I have most of it on video and i took a photo of most of the winners, but first take some sleep.
Tomorrows the big day - panels, screenings, etc...

alright, i'm off.
I'm on my way to the 2005 machinima awards, nominated in tons of categories and excited on what's happening in the next 4 hours.
I'll be writing things down in more detail over at machinimag.com, taking some pictures and maybe video...
Let's see how things develop.

so we arrived yesterday after that hilarious "ouhw ma gawd - noone woke me up and i'm SO too late" incident that involved my grandpa's car, my uncle being on a seminar near frankfurt and my brother hopefully writing his school religion-test of his life!
But apart from that, things ran smooth. Thanks to that PSP i bought a while ago time flew (literally) while onboard the plane.
Plus, the fly was nearly empty so peter could take his well deserved nap (he arrived in Frankfurt at 4 in the morning) and we had lots of space to stretch.
Finding 55 Ann street wasn't too hard, despite the rain we got here in a couple of minutes just from the world trade center subway stop.
And voila, here we go:

The appartement is huge (i was told so) and lovely. We just couldn't wipe that childish smile from our faces and kept repeating over and over again how great it is to be here. Like morons, but more sophisticated.
Then a Zaitsev's burger - all organic - and off to sleep.
Some pics of day one, just after we got up:

Now Peter has his camera with him as well and he's doing some amazing shots on his photoblog. You'll see a lot more impressions there than here, as i will be busy with the Machinima filmfest and other "work" related stuff.
So go check it out at:

may you live in interesting times...
a quick hello from the bitfilm festival in Hamburg, where i'm allowed to give a short introduction workshop together with Klaus Neumann (machinima Deutschland) tomorrow.
Still a lot of work lying ahead of us.
We're doing a realtime, in-game performance just as the all-famous illclan does, dubt in a different style.
After all, we're in Europe, right? We have to make sure we're different...

We're very excited about this and i should definetly start working instead of writing things down but when travelling, it's a good thing to sometimes step aside a bit and rethink what you've done, where you've been. Otherwise you would forget a lot.
So, i've been to brno and had a very strange overnight-trip leaving me sick for a couple of days (still recovering).
And unfortunately i forgot the battery of this great digital camera i have so i had to use my camcorder...

Reeperbahn Pics/Videos to follow. Stay tuned.
